What contingency representation actually means
A contingency fee is exactly what it sounds like. The firm's fee is contingent, meaning it depends, on whether we obtain a recovery for you. If your case settles or results in a verdict that pays money, our fee comes out of that recovery as an agreed percentage. If we do not recover, you owe us no attorney fees at all.
Many clients ask what happens to the costs of running the case if we lose. At Spiering Law, you do not have to repay case costs out of pocket if there is no recovery. The firm absorbs that risk. If we do recover, costs are paid back from the settlement or verdict, and the breakdown is reviewed with you in writing before anything is disbursed.
The point of this structure is to put serious legal representation within reach of anyone who has been seriously injured, regardless of their financial situation. Insurance carriers have lawyers from the moment the claim is reported. The contingency fee is what allows you to have one too.
